Mink farm video – the interview with a scientist on the study of the welfare of fur animals
Many of you will think I’m crazy to publish this video.
Some fashion brands have shown they don’t want to collaborate with me because my blog is called welovefur and I explicitly declare that I love and wear fur in my blog about I tell my story (cool because today in 2018 after 6 years I’m the point of reference for the fashion industry).
If my blog was called Welovefur and I had not got the nickname Lady Fur, surely I could work with many fashion brands that still use real leather and fur.
I love furs because they are eco-friendly.
Life for me, as for furriers, farmers, producers and all sector operators, is never easy. There is too much hypocrisy dictated by wrong information.
There have been many requests: I thought about sharing with you this video shot inside a mink farm in Denmark that I had already visited three years ago when I attended the Sorting course at Kopenhagen Fur.
In the video you will find only mink but many other species live on this model farm and there is also a research laboratory.
I sincerely hope to be able to debunk some false myths of this sector also because there aren’t many videos on the subject going around the web. There are false ones that show atrocities that have nothing to do with this sector that is super controlled by the IFF with very hard laws ( for example: business closure for lawbreakers )
First: The animals are not skinned alive. (Read here why is not possible 4 reasons)
Second : As you can note, the animals, in this case minks, are not mistreated, are fed with fresh food rich with vitamins and show no sign of fear of human beings. The mink is, by nature, a solitary animal that loves to live always in the same place, so being born in captivity, it suffers less than other species from living in a cage.
A mink farm can absolutely not be compared to a farm for meat to slaughter….
In our case the farmer’s work is not easy and is also rather tiring. He is a type of designer, who, as well as taking care of the animals, studies the coat carefully, it’s transformation from one year to the next analysing the family tree rigorously.
Some times a new color is created that is presented to Kopenhagen Fur to be put on the market.
The farmer’s main objective is to keep the animal well, to let him grow in the best possible conditions: only in this way can you get the best furs.
And I would like to conclude confessing that I know the farmers and making this film was a beautiful experience.
I hope it has been informative for you 🙂
How Are Farmed Fur Bearing Animals Killed?
Here’s everything you need to know about how farmed fur bearing animals are killed:
Fur Farmers Care
Contrary to popular belief, fur farmers care about their animals and their welfare. They want them to die as quickly and humanely as possible. Farmed fox and mink is usually euthanised with carbon monoxide. This is fast, un-intrusive and humane. The animal is rendered unconscious within seconds.
Does the animal feel stressed? Usually not.
Farmed fur animals are killed in the barn where they live by the people who care for them every day. Their surroundings are familiar.
By contrast, food animals are transported to distant abattoirs. They are loaded and unloaded from trucks, crammed close together with other animals. This process is stressful and distressing for them. For this reason, killing animals for fur is considered much more humane than killing them for meat.
I love fur, but Iwould never want any animal suffers
So insteresting 🙂

Pretty informative. I love wearing fur but I could only wear it when I’m in a country that has winter now. Plus…. I have some friends that are anti-fur so I can’t wear it around them. Great video.

I’m so glad that we have you in the industry!! The video is educational enough, great job and thank you!
Great informations, Samantha, about the truth. You did a great for the fur industry and I love that your nickname LADY FUR – it sounds wonderful!
Hey Samantha,
I appreciate your video and I thought it was extremely informative. While I am a fur lover myself, I think you can show as many of these videos as you want but as soon as an animal lover sees one second of the little mink in the cage, knowing their fate they will end up on someone’s back is going to turn those people off regardless.
I appreciate the myth debunking and I think you should keep continuing on doing what you do as a fur connoisseur. I think your video has done wonders for the fur industry and I think you should keep being you.

Thank you for the really nice comment on my blog, have a great day 🙂
Your video is informative and the farm is very professional in its management, the animals seem so comfortable
Fur farming is essential, we could not meet the demand for furs only from wild furs. I am proud to support the industry and wish that farms grow and are managed as well as the one in your video so we can rock the so many fur fashions we all love.
Great video Sam and it really shows how well these animals are looked after and raised. The cruelty and neglect is such a farse because the animals have to be raised properly to grow and maintain a nice pelt. So did you get to hand pick your next coat while there.. he he !
It’s a great post and thanks for sharing this information !
